Saint Paul Phase III Harbor Upgrade Project 2009

Small Boat Harbor

This project consists of constructing a new small boat harbor within the existing Harbor, and expands the berthing area for processing on the main breakwater.

Small Boat Harbor work includes dredging an entrance channel to a depth of -16' MLLW; dredging a 3 acre mooring basing to a depth of -12' MLLW; dredgeing channels and fairways to a depth of -12' MLLW; constructing a 350' rubble breakwater to protect small craft from wave action; constructing slips for 56 vessels up to 60' in length; and creating an upland harbor support area. Enhancement of water circulation within the Small Boat Harbor is also included in the project through realignment of a splitter breakwater at the entrance to the adjacent Salt Lagoon. Environmental enhancement is provided through construction of a 1.6 acre tidal pool in the salt lagoon channel to provide additional tidal habitat for shore birds.

Breakwater berth work includes dredging the existing berthing area to minus 29' MLLW to allow for usage by deeper draft vessels. Breakwater berth dredging is being funded through EDA.

The Corps of Engineers has awarded the project construction to Dutra Dredging Company of San Rafael, California. Project is scheduled to be complete by January 25, 2012.
